Design Journeys through Complex Systems collects years of experience, over a decade of theory, and leading thinking practices to deliver a map for change-makers that helps them embrace the power of systemic design.
Namahn gave a workshop at the latest Interaction Design Conference that took place in Milan from 2 to 7 February 2020.
Around 25 participants joined the session, which lasted one full day.
The workshop covered all the steps of the toolkit, focusing on a case inspired by a real project Namahn has been working on. Specifically, the participants looked at ecosystems around small and medium-sized enterprises, which are the majority of European businesses and, very often, rely on stable business models. The briefing asked the different teams to come up with a strategy to encourage SMEs innovation, by also looking at potential partnerships.
In the morning, participants analysed current perspectives within the SME ecosystem. Such perspectives were synthesised in causal loop diagrams, then elaborated into a systems map.
The afternoon focused on ideation, to build up the mix of interventions needed to foster innovation in the companies. By the end of the day, all of the groups came up with a model of actions to undertake. They also looked at possible variations of the model, according to different European contexts.
